County Connection to Implement Restructuring of Fares Effective Sept. 1, 1997.


CONCORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1997--In an effort to maintain the existing level of service, County Connection will implement a restructuring restructuring - The transformation from one representation form to another at the same relative abstraction level, while preserving the subject system's external behaviour (functionality and semantics).  of fares for both the fixed route and paratransit Paratransit is an alternative mode of flexible passenger transportation that does not follow fixed routes or schedules. Typically vans or mini-buses are used to provide paratransit service, but also share taxis and jitneys are important providers.  services effective Sept. 1, 1997.

Primary changes in the Fixed Route Division will take place with cash fares. Greater discounts will be available to those purchasing the multi-ride passes which are all non-expiring.

The Paratransit Division will move from a 3-tiered fare structure to a flat fee structure as recommended/allowed under the Americans With Disabilities Act Americans with Disabilities Act, U.S. civil-rights law, enacted 1990, that forbids discrimination of various sorts against persons with physical or mental handicaps.  of 1990. Outlined below are the changes which will take place in both the Fixed Route and Paratransit Divisions.

Fixed Route Division

Cash fares on regular fixed route buses will increase from $1.00 to $1.25, and increase from $1.25 to $1.50 for express bus service. The cash fare for senior and disabled riders will remain at $.50, and youths under the age of six traveling with an adult will continue to ride for free.

Discounted multi-ride bus passes will also undergo minor changes, designed to offer greater, equitable equitable adj. 1) just, based on fairness and not legal technicalities. 2) refers to positive remedies (orders to do something, not money damages) employed by the courts to solve disputes or give relief.  discounts to both adult and youth riders. Under the current fare structure, adult riders purchasing a 40-ride bus pass for $35 receive a 12.5% discount. Youth riders (between ages 6 and 18) purchasing a 40-ride pass for $30 receive a 25% discount.

Under the new structure effective September September: see month.  1, both adult and youth riders can purchase a 40-ride pass for $35 and receive a 30% discount. Also under the new structure, adult riders will now have the option of purchasing a 20-ride pass for $25, and receive a 25% discount. In the past, only youth riders were offered the smaller fare instrument.

Paratransit Division

The County Connection LINK service, a Dial-A-Ride type service available to eligible passengers certified See certification.  under the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, will move to a flat fee structure of $2.50 per trip. Previous fares were determined by the distance traveled.

Transit agencies nationwide had until January January: see month.  of 1997 to be in full compliance with the federal mandate, leading to the adjustment in fares. Under the federal law, transit agencies can only charge twice the cash fare of regular fixed route services for paratransit services. The actual cost to County Connection to provide this service is approximately $15 per trip.

County Connection has begun an extensive effort to inform the existing users of the LINK service of the upcoming changes. Travel training efforts have increased to help those passengers who are interested in learning how to use the fixed route buses. All buses in the County Connection fleet are fully accessible.
