County Commissioners Remind Indiana State Leaders of Transportation Needs.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Association of County Commissioners, representing Commissioners from all 92 counties, is hand-delivering a petition to state leaders today, reminding the Governor and legislators of the growing transportation needs at the local level and stressing the need for additional road funding.

Indiana counties are suffering because they lack revenue to fix and expand deteriorating roads and bridges. The petition emphasizes that local leaders need additional funding authorized au·thor·ize

"We want state leaders to remember the critical transportation needs that Indiana counties are facing," said Bill Haan, Executive Director of the Indiana Association of County Commissioners. "These problems will only be exacerbated in the years to come unless state leaders take action to fix this funding shortfall."

Local governments in Indiana are in need of a $200 million annual increase in transportation revenue over the next decade to cover an estimated $2 billion expense to upgrade local roads, bridges and streets. Over half of all county roads are too narrow to meet today's safety standards Safety standards are standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes, etc. They may be advisory or compulsory and are normally laid down by an advisory or regulatory body that may be either voluntary or statutory. .
