County's hat trick is making lives better.


THREE Northumberland projects have been shortlisted for a national award for their work in transforming opportunities for parents, children and young people.

The Partners in Excellence Awards 2006 recognises excellence and innovation in the delivery of children's and families services across England.

The three projects in the running are Sure Start North and West Children's Centres for their partnership work with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service' Northumberland County Northumberland County is the name of several counties in Northern America:
  • In the United States
  • Northumberland County, Pennsylvania
  • Northumberland County, Virginia
 Council's Parenting Initiatives project for its work in empowering parents through a range of courses and unique support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  and NCH NCH National Coalition for the Homeless

NCH National Council for Hypnotherapy (UK)
NCH National Center for Homeopathy

NCH National Claims History
NCH Nielsen Clearing House
 Newbiggin Children's Centre for its work in reducing tooth decay Tooth Decay Definition

Tooth decay, which is also called dental cavities or dental caries, is the destruction of the outer surface (enamel) of a tooth.

This is the fourth year running projects from Northumberland have been nominated for the award and the county council's early years and child care service has also been shortlisted for the Children Now award for its joint work with the Fire and Rescue Service, which it plans to extend across the county.

Coun Jim Wright, executive member for children's services, said: "Congratulations to the finalists for achieving national recognition for their hard work. Northumberland County Council is proud of the success of these projects, and it's great to see that this is being picked up nationally too.

"They are showcases of innovative thought in how they deliver services to children and families, and are integral to the county council's work towards the Every Child Matters agenda."

The winners will be announced on December 4 at a ceremony in London.
