Although displeasure concerning the method of keeping national records was voiced in Congress as early as 1810, the United States continued  from Open Solutions and the Federal Reserve, and on-line returns processing utilizing the FedLine for the Web. Most traditional item processing centers receive their physical inclearing items from the Federal Reserve, and then re-balance to ensure accuracy. As a result of Open Solutions' relationship with the Federal Reserve, the need for a second balancing run has been eliminated.

Other key services provided include image inclearing through the Federal Reserve, remote branch image capture, image archival and statement rendering for printed and electronic delivery of image statements.

"It was important for Savings Bank of Danbury to find a solution that prepares us for the faster electronic clearing that Check 21 legislation brings about. The integration of images to the teller line and customer access to images through home banking has been a great improvement in both efficiency and quality of service. One hundred percent of our customers are now receiving image statements," said Marcia Grise, Vice President of Operations for Savings Bank of Danbury.

In addition to offering traditional prime pass item image capture and cash letter preparation, Open Solutions utilizes the latest in item processing technologies including remote branch image capture, courtesy and legal amount read (CAR/LAR) and power encode. Remote Branch Image Capture provides financial institutions with the ability to capture check images and MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) The machine recognition of numeric data printed with magnetically charged ink. It is used on bank checks and deposit slips. MICR readers detect the characters and convert them into digital data.  at the point of presentment.

"Open Solutions' focus on quality, advanced item processing services is filling a void in the marketplace, as evidenced by the rapid ramp-up and delivery of these services. We believe that item imaged processing is an under-recognized area for community financial institutions to enhance customer relations and achieve greater operational efficiencies. We are committed to assist our clients in realizing these potential improvements to quality and service," noted David Krystowiak, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Open Solutions' Strategic Solutions Group.

Mike Nicastro, Open Solutions' Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, said, "We are delighted that our work with the Federal Reserve and strategy to offer the best possible item processing solutions has brought real advantages to the community financial services The examples and perspective in this article or section may not represent a worldwide view of the subject.
