Countdown to the Americas Conference.


MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1998--The Second Annual Americas Conference: Shaping Business and Policy for the New Millenium is set to commence tomorrow with a number of high-ranking dignitaries from throughout the hemisphere.

While the Conference will showcase countries from throughout the Caribbean and North, Central and South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  not represented this year is the Dominican Republic. Dominican President Leonel Fernandez declined to participate due to scheduling conflicts.

Hugo Chavez will participate via teleconference, providing the opportunity for the two leading Venezuelan presidential candidates, Chavez and Irene Saez, to address key issues.

Keynote address will be delivered by President Miguel Angel Rodriguez of Costa Rica and Ecuador's President Jamil Mahuad.
