Councils' cash awards.


COUNCILS in the North East will share a pounds 6.9m Government cash boost.

Local Government Minister John Healey John Healey (born 13 February, 1960) is the British politician. He is the Labour Member of Parliament for Wentworth and Minister of State in the Department for Communities and Local Government.  confirmed today the payouts to councils under the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives Scheme.

A total of 25 councils in the region will share the money.

Gateshead Council is to get nearly pounds 1.5m, while Newcastle City Council will receive more than pounds 1.1m. North Tyneside North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. Its seat is at the Town Hall, Wallsend.

Created in 1974, the borough lies within the historic county boundaries of Northumberland.
 gets pounds 126,000 and South Tyneside pounds 172,000.

The funding, which should be handed out in the next few days, is designed to reward councils for successfully promoting economic growth in their area.

In a speech last month, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the remaining funding through the scheme, which started in 2006, would be released to help councils in the credit crunch Credit Crunch

An economic condition whereby investment capital is difficult to obtain. Banks and investors become weary of lending funds to corporations thereby driving up the price of debt products for borrowers.
