Councilors asked to make room in justice center for county court.

SPRINGFIELD - City councilors have been asked to consider a request from the Central Lane Justice Court to make room for the court in a downtown municipal justice center planned for completion in 2008.

Leslie Barrett, the court's supervisor, has asked city officials to contemplate the possibility of allowing Lane County to buy and use space in Springfield's public-safety facility. Construction of the downtown justice center is scheduled to begin this fall.

Since 1989, the Central Lane Justice Court has leased space in a privately owned building near the corner of Fifth and A streets. The building's owner, Don Carter Don Carter may be:

, has offered to sell the structure to the city to make room for the municipal justice center.

City councilors are considering whether to pursue buying Carter's building, along with the neighboring First Christian Church First Christian Church can refer to:

Lane County operates justice courts in Springfield, Oakridge and Florence. In 1997, the county paid Florence for construction of court space in that city's justice center.

Puppet festival lineup set

 is planned for the city's 13th annual puppet festival next month.

The festival begins Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. with The Tall Tales of Paul Bunyan, presented by Washington puppeteer Roger Mara of Snapdragon snapdragon: see figwort.  Puppet Productions. At 3 p.m., Mara will present The Princess and the Pea. Both shows will be at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center at 215 West C St.

On Feb. 10, Oregon Fantasy Puppet Theatre will perform Little Red Riding Hood Noun 1. Little Red Riding Hood - a girl in a fairy tale who meets a wolf while going to visit her grandmother  at 7 p.m. at the Springfield Public Library in City Hall, 225 Fifth St.

The puppet festival's final acts take place Feb. 11 at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center. Two performances of Little One Inch, a Japanese fairy tale fairy tale

City leaders honored

Attorney Dave Jewett was named Springfield's First Citizen for 2005 at the Springfield Chamber of Commerce's 56th annual awards and installation banquet earlier this month.

Jewett, a partner with Springfield law firm Thorp, Purdy, Jewett, Urness and Wilkinson, serves as counsel for the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission.

Other award winners included Congressman Peter DeFazio Peter Anthony DeFazio (born May 27, 1947) is an American politician. He serves as a Democratic U.S. Representative from Oregon, representing the 4th Congressional District and is currently serving his 11th term. , named Springfield's Distinguished Citizen, and Bud Johnson of ACME Collision Service, honored as the city's Business Person of the Year.
