THE NUMBER of councillors on County Durham's new unitary unitary
pertaining to a single object or individual. council is unlikely to be reduced, it was announced yesterday.

Council Leader Simon Henig told the authority's
Cabinet that the Boundary Committee felt the present number of 126
elected members was proportionate to the scale of duties involved after
next month's shake-up.

County Durham is a county in north-east England. It can be used to refer to 4 different entities: - the historic County of Durham

, but from April 1, when the seven district councils and county
council merge to create a unitary council, they will be replaced by the
126 councillors who were voted into office in May last year to serve the
dual role as members of the existing county council and unitary
councillors-elect.
