Councillor's bid to honour war dead.


A CAMPAIGN has been launched to build a war memorial in a South Wales South Wales south nsud m du Pays de Galles  town.

Llantrisant councillor Glynne Holmes is hoping to raise pounds 30,000 to build a monument to commemorate the town's war dead.

Coun Holmes said: "Llantrisant has a proud military history which spans almost a millennium and yet it astounds me we do not have a memorial in the old town to commemorate those brave souls that lost their lives in conflict."

He said Llantrisant had been fortified fortified (fôrt´fīd),
adj containing additives more potent than the principal ingredient.
 in the 13th Century and had sent its sons to fight in conflicts from the 1346 Battle of Crecy to both world wars.

He has set up a committee including members of the town trust, the council, residents and Rhondda Cynon Taf council leader Russell Robert to raise the money. The committee is researching names of residents from Llantrisant, Cross Inn, Penygawsi and Talbot Green Talbot Green (Tonysguboriau in Welsh) is a small commuter town, just north of the M4 motorway, in the Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough of South Wales in the United Kingdom. It has a large retail park which is used by residents of the whole Rhondda Cynon Taff area.  to feature on the monument.
