Council tax warning.


PEOPLE who refuse to pay their council tax bills can expect an early visit from the bailiffs, the leader of Birmingham City Council has warned.

Only about two per cent of council tax payers fail to settle their bills, but Coun Whitby (Con Harborne) said they were defrauding the city and should not be allowed to go unchallenged.

He added: "This is our money which is needed to deliver decent public services Public services is a term usually used to mean services provided by government to its citizens, either directly (through the public sector) or by financing private provision of services.  for the people of Birmingham. We are not going to be heavy handed. We will do it sensitively and give due consideration. But we are talking about sending in bailiffs earlier. It is quite wrong that some people, who could pay, think they can get away without paying."
