Council tax 'refund' warning.Byline: BARRY GIBSON RESIDENTS have been warned about a new council tax scam (SCSI Configured AutoMatically) A subset of Plug and Play that allows SCSI IDs to be changed by software rather than by flipping switches or changing jumpers. Both the SCSI host adapter and peripheral must support SCAM. See SCSI. . Fraudsters phone people and tell them they are due a council tax refund. They then ask for their bank account details so they can arrange for the non-existent refund to be made. Although these impostors claim to be working on behalf of the council, they are actually believed to be calling from abroad. Kirklees Council Cabinet member for corporate services Activities that combine or consolidate certain enterprise-wide needed support services, provided based on specialized knowledge, best practices, and technology to serve internal (and sometimes external) customers and business partners. Clr Shabir Pandor said: "Simply by being vigilant and using common sense we can stop this scam. "If you receive a call from someone you suspect is not genuine, do not give out any personal details. "Anyone who is due a council tax refund will be sent a bill from the council showing how much they are owed. "You can choose to have the amount deducted de·duct v. de·duct·ed, de·duct·ing, de·ducts v.tr. 1. To take away (a quantity) from another; subtract. 2. To derive by deduction; deduce. v.intr. off your future bill, or you can request a refund." Anyone who is unsure of the identity of a caller claiming to be from Kirklees can ask for their extension number and call them back through the main council switchboard on 01484 221 000.
