Council of the Americas to Meet In Washington, D.C. and Miami: Will Discuss the Status of Negotiations for a U.S.-Central American Free Trade Agreement.

This includes Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as South America.  announced today that it will host a series of panel discussions with business and government leaders to talk about recent developments in the ongoing negotiations for a U.S.-Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA cafta

The first program is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 14 in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. House of Representatives' Rayburn House Office Building The Rayburn House Office Building (RHOB) is a congressional office building for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C., between South Capitol Street and First Street.  from 12:00 - 1:30 PM. The following program will take place on October 15 in Miami, at the Hotel Intercontinental Miami The Hotel Intercontinental Miami is a hotel in downtown Miami, Florida. It belongs to the InterContinental Hotels chain. Located on Biscayne Bay, the hotel is in the form of a 35-story tower on the eastern edge of downtown in Bayfront Park. The address is 435 Chopin Plaza.  from 4:00 - 6:30 PM. Members of the press are invited to attend both events.

The Washington program will bring to the attention of members of Congress, and their staffs, the economic and social development aspects of the trade agreement. The panel will be moderated by Congressman Cal Dooley Calvin M. "Cal" Dooley (born January 11, 1954) American politician, was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from 1991 to 2005, representing the 20th District of California.  (D-CA), and include Honduran Trade and Industry Minister Norman Garcia; Assistant United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  Trade Representative for Capacity Building Mary Ryckman; Professor Richard Feinberg on behalf of Gap Inc. and the Business Coalition for Capacity Building; and Ira Shapiro, former U.S. trade official and top trade attorney for Greenberg Traurig LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol .

The program in Miami, along with being an excellent opportunity for Council members to bring to the table the issues of most concern to them in a discussion with the Central American and U.S. negotiators, will feature Norman Garcia, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honduras; Alberto Trejos, Minister of Foreign Trade, Costa Rica; and Daniel Fisk Fisk   , James 1834-1872.
