Council handed pounds 500k aid to fight recession; Kirklees COUNCIL.A Nextra pounds 1/2 mis bound for Kirklees Kirklees is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 390,000 and includes the settlements of Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Marsden, Meltham, Mirfield and Slaithwaite. Council coffers - to help them through the recession. It's part of a pounds 10m handout to 22 Yorkshire councils. And he stressed it could be used as they see fit, to help meet local needs and priorities in the difficult economic climate. Kirklees will get pounds 476,885.42 while Calderdale will receive pounds 618,108. The money comes from the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives Scheme that has been in operation since 2006, and rewards councils for successfully promoting economic growth in their area. In total an extra pounds 100m will be shared out Adj. 1. shared out - distributed in portions (often equal) on the basis of a plan or purpose divided up, shared, divided distributed - spread out or scattered about or divided up among 360 councils across the UK. Healey said: "Councils are best placed to provide real help locally, tailored to local needs, to help people to stay in their homes and their jobs". |
