The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST), Washington, D.C., releases "Integrated Pest Management Integrated Pest Management (IPM), planned program that coordinates economically and environmentally acceptable methods of pest control with the judicious and minimal use of toxic pesticides. IPM programs are based on a careful assessment of local conditions, including such factors as climate, crop characteristics, the biology of the pest species, agricultural practices, soil quality, and government regulations.: Current and Future Strategies," a report that offers a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the issues involved in pest control. This new report sets out the scientific, environmental and political contexts in which Integrated Pest Management (IPM) has developed over the past two decades. The document represents a thorough reevaluation of this approach to pest management, which was first addressed in a CAST report in 1982.
