Council Rock School District Recognized for Innovation in Energy Management.

The School District's Partnership with ARAMARK Education Results in Significant Energy and Financial Savings

PHILADELPHIA -- ARAMARK Education, a world leader in providing professional services to more than 500 K-12 school districts in the U.S., recently helped the Council Rock School District in Newtown, Pennsylvania, implement a comprehensive energy reduction program which was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). At the 2008 ENERGY STAR Awards Ceremony held in Washington D.C. on April 1, Council Rock School District was named as a 2008 EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for outstanding energy management and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

The energy reduction program included many operational improvements, optimization of the building operations and the control programming, a control system enhancement permitting centralized and remote access, staff training for operations and maintenance, and repairs to HVAC equipment field controls. A major highlight of the program is the participation of students, teachers and the community in an annual Energy Awareness Week, designed to increase energy conservation and sustainability. Activities include poster contests, daily energy announcements, and "theme" days.

Council Rock School District, an EPA ENERGY STAR partner since 2006, was recently recognized as a 30 percent ENERGY STAR Leader. During its second full program year, the school district, with the help of ARAMARK Education, reduced energy consumption by 30.8 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by over 12.5 million pounds. In fact, two schools in the district have been awarded the ENERGY STAR Label for being in the top 25 percent of the most efficient schools in the U.S.
