Council Cabinet decides to put up care costs; STUDY ON HISTORIC LIBRARY AND FAILED BID TO SAVE NURSERY.


COUNCILLORS have approved a rise in care costs for vulnerable people in Kirklees.

Kirklees Council's Cabinet approved plans to increase care charges by 10% for 2008/9.

Yet carers' wages will only increase by 2%.

 will see their weekly rate rise from pounds 308.15 to pounds 314.30. Home care costs will rise from pounds 8 an hour to pounds 8.50, a rise of 6.25%.

Day care chargeswill go up from pounds 6.10 a day to pounds 6.60.

For disabled people care will rise from pounds 4.70 a day to pounds 5.20.

The charges start on April 7.

She said the rates were still cheaper than those of other authorities - with home care costing pounds 9.74 a day in Bradford and pounds 10.86 per day in Calderdale.

"Most people don't have to pay the full cost. The charges are based on budgeted costs for the coming year."
