Council's call for tax break; NEWSBRIEF.


SMALL companies should be given a year-long break from paying business tax, a South Wales council has recommended.

The county is divided into 23 electoral wards returning 47 councillors.
 has written to the Assembly Government asking for small firms to be given a 12-month exemption from the tax to help them through the recession.

Councillor Rhodri Traherne, said: "It is our view that in the current recession there should be at least a 12-month business rates holiday, not just a deferment deferment Delaying of an obligation. See Default, Medical student debt. Cf Forbearance. , for small businesses with a rateable value up to pounds 6,500."
