THESE builders got stuck in a rut yesterday when they dug a ditch... and then drove straight into it.

 workmen tried to pull out the mini-digger, but after several failed attempts they had to fetch help.

They were part of a team carrying out renovation work on the town hall in Kinghorn


Kinghorn (Gaelic: Ceann Gronna) is a burgh in Fife, Scotland. A seaside resort with two beaches, Kinghorn Beach and Pettycur Bay, plus a fishing port, it stands on the north shore of the Firth of Forth opposite Edinburgh.
, Fife, when they made the blunder.

Resident Tom Brown, 75, said: "I was just going down to get my paper when I saw them using a digger in the small piece of ground outside the town hall.

"They somehow managed to dig a hole then drive the digger into it. I have no idea how they managed to do that.

"After a while one of them got in to give them some leverage but he almost got his foot trapped underneath."

The work was being carried out by builders from Perth-based Cumming and Co. The company confirmed they had been working at Kinghorn town hall.

A spokeswoman added: "I haven't heard of this happening before."
