cosmetics with all products priced under $4.00, is the top selling color cosmetics brand in the U.K., and will be available in the U.S. at Wal-Mart stores nationwide starting in March 2000.

The introduction of Rimmel marks Coty Inc.'s return to the U.S. color cosmetics market, although Coty has successfully marketed color cosmetics in Europe for the past decade. Rimmel, a line of products targeted toward women age 18-30, offers over 200 products for eyes, lips, face and nails. The Rimmel consumer proposition is this: quality cosmetics designed with a youthful spirit, with a palette inspired by the culture, energy and style of London all at a price that underscores true consumer value.

Peter Harf, chairman and chief executive officer of Coty Inc., says, &uot; There is a phenomenal trend among mass retailers to refocus Verb 1. refocus - focus once again; The physicist refocused the light beam"

their image, become stylish and fun, and reach new, younger customers. With Rimmel, we want to speak to value-conscious--yet style-conscious--consumers, a key target for these retailers.&uot; Peter Harf also emphasized that he sees RIMMEL as another potential mega-brand for Coty Inc.

The Rimmel cosmetics will be showcased in custom-designed store fixtures, color-coded with price points and organized to show the full range of products and the inspiration behind their creation. Each store fixture will have two Rimmel brochures: one that describes the season's color choices and a second that discusses the attributes and attitude of the brand. Print advertisements for Rimmel will run in major U.S. consumer magazines starting in late Spring 2000. The campaign was designed by J. Walter Thompson Walter Thompson refers to:

When Eugene Rimmel died in 1887, his two sons assumed control of the beauty company and extended the brand lines to produce more color cosmetics, emphasizing eye-enhancing products. Rimmel remained a family-owned company until 1949, when it was acquired by a group of London advertising executives, who expanded the brand's color range, redesigned all packaging, and created the first self-selection cosmetics dispenser.

Coty Inc. acquired Rimmel in 1996 and in the past few years has re-imaged the cosmetics line and expanded the brand's sales to other European countries, and recently elected to introduce the brand to American consumers.
