There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery).  - The Cottage Grove Sentinel is being sold to an Illinois-based community newspaper chain, the paper's publisher said Tuesday Tuesday: see week. .

Lee Enterprises officials expect the sale to News Media Corp. to be completed within the next week, said Theresa Willmann, publisher of the Sentinel and former publisher of the now-defunct Springfield News. The price was not disclosed.

Both papers were purchased in 1997 by Lee, an Iowa-based newspaper chain.

"We anticipate (the Sentinel sale) will be final by the 31st," Willmann said.

Willmann said she will be replaced as Sentinel publisher by Amy Callahan, the paper's advertising manager.

The Sentinel is a once-weekly, 4,500-circulation paper distributed on Wednesdays.

In September, Lee sold the twice-weekly Newport News-Times to News Media.

Lee also had tried in recent months to sell The Springfield News after years of weak financial performance. Unable to find a buyer, Lee closed the paper last week.

News Media officials could not be reached Tuesday afternoon to discuss the pending deal involving the Sentinel. According to according to
