$2.6 billion: total payout to survivors of clergy abuse since 1950.

$463 million: payout to survivors in settlements in 2008.

$660 million: payout to 500 survivors of abuse in Los Angeles in 2007.

625: the number of "credible accusations" against 423 priests or deacons in 2008, a 4 percent increase over 2007. Ten allegations were made by children or minors under 18: the remaining 615 accusations were made by adults who said they had been abused as children.
