Facing another tough year in Brazil, automakers continue cost-cutting in logistics. General Motors recently awarded TNT TNT: see trinitrotoluene.

 Logistics a three-year, US$2.5 million contract to manage car parts' distribution for two auto plants in Sao Paulo. GM plans to introduce four vehicles in Brazil this year as part of a $1 billion investment through 2004.

Ford Motor Co. hopes to reduce shipping costs for its recently inaugurated $1.9 billion plant in northeastern Brazil. The plant will depend on the $12.5 million Ponta da Laje port, slated to be ready to move parts before July. The automaker has already assigned the logistics contract to Crowley American Transport.
