The decrease in same store sales resulted from the retail calendar difference between November November: see month.  1995, which included nine days of post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping sales, and November 1996, which included only two. When the four-week period ended Nov. 30, 1996, is compared with the four-week period ended Nov. 25, 1995 (both include two post-Thanksgiving shopping days), same store sales increased 16.4%.

Total sales for the four-week period ended Nov. 30, 1996, were $24.6 million, a 10.3% increase from $22.3 million, for the four-week period ended Dec. 2, 1995. Year-to-date, total sales for the 43-week period ended Nov. 30, 1996, were $148.8 million, an 18.1% increase from $126.0 million, for the 43-week period ended Dec. 2, 1995. Total sales for the 1996 month and year-to-date periods do not include the additional seven days of post-Thanksgiving sales that are included in the prior year results. As of Nov. 30, 1996, the company operated 58 stores compared to 49 stores as of Dec. 2, 1995.
