He was later promoted to General Manager of company-owned WSFA-TV (NBC) in Montgomery, AL returning to WTOL as General Manager in April 1993. He is a native of Ionia, Michigan and a graduate of Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college. . Mel and his wife, Kathy, will relocate to Columbia immediately.

Joining Stebbins on the WIS-TV management team as Station Manager is Jeff Hoffman the current News Director for Cosmos-owned WAVE-TV (NBC) in Louisville, Ky. Hoffman will have daily operational responsibility for news, marketing, production, and engineering. Hoffman joined Cosmos in January 2000 from WJZ-TV in Baltimore, MD. Jeff and his wife, Andrea, have one daughter and are expecting their second child in September. Replacing Stebbins as General Manager at WTOL-TV will be Bob Chirdon, the station's General Sales Manager. Chirdon, a native of the Cleveland area, came to WTOL from the ABC ABC

In addition, Cosmos owns CableVantage Inc., a cable advertising sales subsidiary; Take Ten productions, a video production facility; and Broadcast Merchandising Company, a professional broadcast equipment dealership.
