Coscient Group Starts Production on Two New Animation Series.

:CST.A.) announces that its subsidiary, Cactus Animation, has begun production on two new animated series for the Canadian and international markets: Pirate Family and Fantomette. These animated comedies for young audiences have a total budget of $22 million and are co-produced with the French company Elma Animation, a subsidiary of Canal +.

Pirate Family, a series of 26 half-hour episodes, has already been pre-sold by Motion International, Coscient Group's distribution subsidiary, to YTV YTV Pääkaupunkiseudun Yhteistyövaltuuskunta (Finnish: Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council)

 and Radio-Canada, and will first be broadcast in fall 1999. The series has also been sold to French networks France 3 and Canal J. This comedy features the tribulations of Captain MacLimpet, a struggling father trying to earn an honourable (!) living by seizing ships laden with riches. The pirate police and a curious crocodile crocodile, large, carnivorous reptile of the order Crocodilia, found in tropical and subtropical regions. Crocodiles live in swamps or on river banks and catch their prey in the water. They have flattened bodies and tails, short legs, and powerful jaws.  constantly foil the plans of this ill-fated seaman, and his adventures unfold in a crazy world of funny characters.

Fantomette also has 26 thirty-minute episodes and the series has been sold to Tele-Quebec and French broadcasters Canal J and France 3. Fantomette, based on the popular adventure books by Georges Chalet, published by Editions Hachette Jeunesse, features 14-year-old girl Francoise Dupont. Beneath a shy, studious stu·di·ous
