Coscient Group Inc. announces year-end results.

MONTREAL, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1995--Coscient Group Inc. (ME,VSE:CST.A) The fiscal year ended July 31, 1995 was Coscient Group's first full year of operation consolidating the two major acquisitions made during the previous year: Allegro Films Inc. and S.D.A. Productions Limited.

Thanks to these acquisitions and the dynamic internal development of the Group's subsidiaries, sales nearly tripled from $27.2 million to $69.7 million. Internal development during fiscal 1994-95 represented $23 million and stemmed from an abundant production, in terms of both the number and scope of television and film projects. The movie Screamers, produced by Allegro Films at a cost of $14 million and to be featured next January in 1,200 movie theatres across North America, is an excellent example of the bigger scope of the Group's projects. Group Coscient also reinforced its position in the film distribution sector by acquiring Film Circuit Inc. on May 4, 1995.

The gross profit for fiscal 1994-95 increased by 160 percent to reach $11.8 million. As for net earnings, they were $578,679 or $0.06 per share, compared with a net loss of $111,078 or $0.01 per share the previous year. Had it not been for a redemption premium and accelerated expenditures for certain development projects, net earnings would have topped the $1-million mark.

Synergies have already begun to take shape. The technical services, program sponsorship and administrative functions (accounting, financing and legal) of S.D.A. Productions and Coscient have been grouped together and Allegro Films services will soon be integrated. This has resulted in considerable savings in 1995 and will yield in even greater savings in the next fiscal year. The full impact of the synergy will particularly be felt in terms of international sales and co- production efforts.

Strong growth in the volume of productions designed International sales now account for over 30 percent of total sales, and over half of the volume of production is designed. These percentages will rise even more, since the new productions of Coscient and S.D.A. Productions are increasingly aimed at an international audience. In the case of Allegro Films, its productions have always been aimed at the international market, especially the U.S.

Outlook

In light of the number and scope of the productions under way, sales in the next fiscal year should top the $80-million mark. Moreover, given the management structure now in place, the existing synergies which benefit the subsidiaries and the non- recurring expenses which affected the financial performance in 1994-1995, Coscient Group expects to record an increase in net earnings.
