Corvil Announces New Product Release; CorvilNet 1.1 to Deliver Cost Savings and Risk Mitigation for IP Networks.

NEW ORLEANS New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded  -- CISCO NETWORKERS--Corvil, a technology pioneer in integrated bandwidth, traffic and quality of service management on Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

(IP) networks, today announced the general availability of CorvilNet 1.1, a comprehensive platform for delivering IP Certainty within enterprise and service provider networks worldwide.

The CorvilNet platform encompasses Corvil Bandwidth technology, which provides a revolutionary breakthrough to fundamental questions facing those responsible for running today's IP networks, namely how much bandwidth do you need, how much traffic can you fit, and what quality can you achieve. , guesswork and over-provisioning to answer these questions, which is both highly inefficient and unreliable, particularly for quality-sensitive applications such as voice, video and transactional data. The Corvil innovation leverages pioneering mathematical algorithms to solve the problem through a unique capability to both directly instrument the IP network at the millisecond One thousandth of a second. See space/time and ohnosecond.

"WAN managers and IT architects are under increasing pressure to cost-effectively manage bandwidth costs while at the same time improve the quality of delivered services - adding additional bandwidth to improve performance is no longer acceptable," states Stephen Elliot, Senior Analyst for Network Management at IDC. "Users are demanding fine-grained measurement capabilities that enable more control and smarter utilization of bandwidth resources, aligned with quality of service and business policy objectives."

CorvilNet comprises of four components:- the Corvil-1000, a network appliance (1) A specialized device for use on a network. For example, Web servers, cache servers and file servers can be implemented as general-purpose computers with the appropriate software or as network appliances, which are computers dedicated to a single function and cannot do anything  which performs the instrumentation of the traffic at millisecond-level granularity The degree of modularity of a system. More granularity implies more flexibility in customizing a system, because there are more, smaller increments (granules) from which to choose. ; CorvilBase, a server which collects and stores the resulting traffic descriptors from the Corvil-1000 appliances; and two desktop applications, CorvilReporter and CorvilView, which use the unique insight provided by the traffic descriptors for real-time network analysis, planning and optimization optimization

Field of applied mathematics whose principles and methods are used to solve quantitative problems in disciplines including physics, biology, engineering, and economics.
 based on precise quantified knowledge.

Commenting on the release of CorvilNet 1.1, Donal Byrne, Chief Executive Officer, Corvil said, "Over the past 12 months, as we've been preparing CorvilNet for general release by working with both large enterprises and service providers in early field trials of the product, the same fundamental issues keep cropping up about how to 'sweat the assets' while at the same time rolling out new services like Voice over IP without falling over the edge in terms of quality. The feedback has been very encouraging about the results that are being achieved through CorvilNet that can enable both significant costs savings and risk mitigation for those responsible for the IP infrastructure and we look forward to working closely with our customers to realize these benefits."

About Corvil

Corvil was founded in 2000 with the "IP Certainty" vision of making networks based on Internet Protocol (IP) technology both predictable and efficient. The CorvilNet platform instruments the existing IP network with a unique capability to measure, monitor and control precisely the bandwidth requirement for any application to run at a specified quality of service. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, the company's investors include Apax Partners, Cisco Systems “Cisco” redirects here. For other uses, see Cisco (disambiguation).
