The Corvallis resident has scheduled announcements in Portland, Eugene, Salem and Corvallis and plans to file candidacy papers with the Oregon Elections Division. In a prepared statement, Shields emphasized that he is the only candidate for governor without experience in politics or state government. "I'm the only candidate not stuck in the politics of the past, which means I'm the only real change agent in this race," he said. Shields said Oregon needs "a new type of leader" who has "the real-world experience and confidence to spark truly innovative approaches and real change." Shields grew up in Marcola and worked at a lumber mill in Springfield as a college student.
