Corus cuts 2,000 more steel jobs; INDUSTRY.

STEEL giant Corus axed a further 2,000 jobs yesterday despite profits of pounds 2.2billion.

More than 1,500 production staff will go at steelworks in Rotherham, Teeside and Stocksbridge near Sheffield.

Another 500 office jobs will go, mainly in Scunthorpe.

The company said it hoped cuts would be voluntary but admitted "compulsory Wikipedia does not currently have an encyclopedia article for .

But Michael Leahy, general secretary of the union Community, said: "This is bad news on top of bad news and brings the Corus job cuts for the year to around 4,500.
