) today announced that it has launched Clotam(TM) in the U.K. Clotam(TM) is an anti-migraine product licensed from GEA Ltd., a subsidiary of Bristol Myers Squibb. Cortecs' agreement also covers Eire.

Clotam(TM) is an NSAID NSAID: see nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.  (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, usually abbreviated to NSAIDs, are drugs with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects - they reduce pain, fever and inflammation. ) which is marketed in 35 countries and has a full U.K. product license approval for acute migraine. It acts in a novel way to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes Leukotrienes

. Incidence of side effects, including gastric side effects, is low. The drug will be available on prescription only and provides practitioners with an alternative cost-effective approach to the treatment and prevention of acute migraine. The treatment regime is one capsule at the first signs of migraine repeated after two to three hours. Each capsule costs one pound sterling.

In the U.K., it is estimated that migraine affects 10% of the population, with women being three times more prone to attacks than men. Acute migraine causes an estimated loss of U.K. working days of between 3.2 to 6.4 million every year and the U.K. market for treatments for the condition is approximately no. 46 million a year.

Dr. Geoffrey Hill, Managing Director of Cortecs Limited, said: "Product sales make up the majority of Cortecs' turnover. I believe Clotam(TM) will be a significant new product in Cortecs' portfolio." He added: "Cortecs has also last week introduced a new food diagnostic kit to detect peanut protein in food. Peanut protein can cause anything from a mild swelling in the mouth to death from anaphylactic shock in very sensitive individuals. The product is intended for food manufacturers and Public Analysts who need to assess individual commodities and processed foods for the presence of this protein for quality control and labeling purposes. Cortecs intends to exploit the world-wide market for this product. While the market for this test may not be very significant, it further demonstrates the Company's commitment to addressing unmet needs in the healthcare industry."
