Corrina proves she's a first-class mum and student; COVENTRY University Results 2005.BALANCING the demands of family and a university course may not sound easy but Corrina Gibbs has shown it can be done. Miss Gibbs, aged 27, of Siddeley Avenue, Stoke, Coventry, today collects a first class degree in geography from Coventry. She is among hundreds of students collecting degrees in art, design, science, the environment, higher education, maths and information sciences. The single mum started the course four years ago when her son Joshua was just 18 months old. He's now five and is today in the audience at Coventry Cathedral Coventry Cathedral, also known as St. Michael's Cathedral, is the seat of the Bishop of Coventry and the Diocese of Coventry, in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The city has had three cathedrals. The first was St. proudly watching his mother collect her certificate. The former Finham Park School Finham Park School is situated on Green Lane in the Finham district of Coventry, on the city's southern border with Warwickshire. In September 2003, it became the first Mathematics and Computing College in Coventry. The current head teacher is Mr. pupil said: "It was a really good course with quite a lot of practical exercise and a particularly good field trip. I've liked geography from A-level onwards. "I did it part time over four years because I am also looking after Joshua. It was a real balancing act. In the summer holidays when I was working in the lab I sometimes had to take him with me because there was just nowhere else to go. So he helped me analyse the soil samples in the lab!" Her dissertation on the magnetic and radioactive properties of soil won the prize for the best undergraduate dissertation. She is currently working at Coventry University The expanding main campus is situated on the east side of Coventry city centre, which boasts one of the most innovative (and unusual-looking) university libraries in the UK. The university is particularly noted for its world-renowned automotive design and engineering degree courses as as a part-time lecturer and hoping to get funding to do a doctorate in geography. She said: "I'm interested in working in the environmental side of geography - possibly conservation or river catchment management. I'm also enjoying the lecturing very much." Cecil Angel Cup: Joseph Barnes, Bachelor of science in International Disaster Engineering and Management. Joseph Barnes has made an outstanding contribution to the University and to the wider, international, community. During his second year on the BSc Internation Disaster Engineering Management he joined the committee of the student society International Disaster Concern and produced, wrote articles for and edited the most successful and professional edition of the society's magazine. This edition is still used to market the University's courses in Disaster Management to prospective students. He was also heavily involved in the charitable events organised by the society that year. He then spent a year in Ethiopia, as an intern with the World Food Programme and played a key role in setting up a food for work initiative aimed at creating food and environmental security for the most deprived. By the end of his placement he had designed the CHILD project (Children in Local Development) and secured funding for it to run in 300 schools. He returned to Coventry for an excellent final year, during which he completed an independent study related to his internship, suitable for publication in an academic journal. He visited Ethiopia again over Easter, to continue work on the CHILD project, which now employs another Coventry graduate and an Ethiopian member of staff. He also developed a moving display of photographs at the University, entitled 'Portrait of a Nation', and with a fellow intern delivered lectures showing how he developed the sustainability indicators and the programme as a whole. Through his academic excellence, drive and compassion, Joe Barnes has enhanced the learning experience of his peers at the University and the reputation of Disaster Management at Coventry with the World Food Programme and partner organisations (UNICEF, USAID USAID United States Agency for International Development USAID Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (Spanish) ). Most importantly, he has made a significant contribution to the improved sustainable livelihoods of children in Ethiopia.
