Corriente Resources New Gold Bearing Structures Identified at Taca-Taca, Argentina.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1998-- Corriente Resources(TSE:CTQ.) Fieldwork over the last three months has discovered new gold bearing structures at the 100 percent owned Taca-Taca project, northern Argentina. These structures are faults, which radiate to the north and northwest from the Taca-Taca copper porphyry system. These faults contain veins that have produced surface assays typically 1-10 g/t gold over widths of 1 to 2 metres with recent discoveries of up to 21.26 g/t gold over a 1 metre width. One such fault structure was tested by three rock samples separated by a total distance of 200 metres and reported values of 3.9, 9.2 and 5.8 g/t gold over widths of 1-2 metres. A trenching program on these structures is underway and reports from the field indicate that the width of these structures is from 2 to 8 metres at the surface and the length is hundreds of metres up to 1 kilometre. Assays from the trenching program should be available in late September.

Results from the summer drilling program on shallow copper targets at the north end of Taca-Taca have been compiled and the significant intersections over 20 metres width are as follows; -0-

The above copper results are all derived from secondary chalcocite copper mineralization which is considered to be amenable to low cost heap leaching technology. The significance of these results is that Corriente has discovered a large area (1X1.5 km) which has a number of potentially leachable copper mineralized zones close to the surface. In an effort to outline more of these copper zones in the north, Corriente is completing further work on structural geology, geophysics, alteration studies and geochemical zoning. Following completion of this work it is planned to resume drilling in the Fall.

Over the past two months, three major mining companies have undertaken reviews of the Taca-Taca project and further visits to the property are planned for the next few months. Corriente is working towards having a joint venture in place at Taca-Taca by the end of 1998.
