Corrie Ken's king of soap marathons.

CORONATION Street's Ken Barlow romped to victory last night in a new league table of the show's greatest stayers.

And Corrie bosses hailed him a soap world-beater.

Ever-present Ken - actor William Roache - has appeared in 2,686 Corrie episodes.

Emily Bishop - Eileen Derbyshire - is runner-up on 2,313 appearances.

Then come Betty Williams - Betty Driver- on 2,091, Rita Sullivan - Barbara Knox - on 2,023 and Bet Gilroy - Julie Goodyear - who clocked up 2,002 appearances before she left last year.

Famous old-timer Ena Sharples - Violet Carson - was way behind on 1,148.

Street makers Granada TV compiled the table at the request of fans.

A spokeswoman said: "William Roache must be the longest running soap star in the world.

"We certainly rate him in a league of his own."
