Corrent Achieves ``Ready for IBM Technology'' Validation; Corrent's CR7120 First Third-Party Silicon Solution to Qualify for This IBM Program.

Business Editors/Technology Writers

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2002

Culminating ten months of rigorous development and testing, Corrent Corporation today announced that its Packet Armor Security Processor CR7120 has been validated for compatibility with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  PowerNP NP4GS3 Network Processor based solutions.

Corrent's CR7120 is the first third-party silicon solution to qualify for IBM's exclusive "Ready for IBM Technology" program, which validates the compatibility of pre-configured and pre-tested solutions with IBM Microelectronics(R) products.

"Delivering integrated solutions is essential to the success of IBM's PowerNP network processors," said Armando Garcia, vice president of network processors, IBM Microelectronics. "The Corrent CR7120 has passed a rigorous review process to meet the high standards necessary for secure deployment of web-based services."

"Corrent's acceptance into the "Ready for IBM Technology" program validates the company's continuous efforts to develop innovative and comprehensive Internet security ''This article or section is being rewritten at

solutions," said Richard Takahashi, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "For months, Corrent worked with IBM Microelectronics to develop a fully compatible network and security processor combination. The result is an offering that will invaluably benefit our customers."

Significant Customer Benefits

As a result of Corrent's validation, Corrent and IBM customers will benefit from faster time to market, reduced development risk, and an improved return on investment when integrating the CR7120 into equipment (e.g. high-speed routers, virtual private networks (VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. ), firewalls, multi-port line cards and edge access equipment) powered by IBM Microelectronics PowerNP network processor products. Customers will also have access to driver software, as well as security APIs and a crypto See cryptography.  library to enable faster integration of an OEM's security application.

In addition, OEMs will benefit from significant savings on precious system development time. OEMs using the IBM/Corrent solution will save months of software development by taking advantage of the work already done by both companies as a result of this validation.

First Technology of its Kind

The CR7120 is the industry's first fully integrated security processor incorporating public key acceleration, line rate encryption The reversible transformation of data from the original (the plaintext) to a difficult-to-interpret format (the ciphertext) as a mechanism for protecting its confidentiality, integrity and sometimes its authenticity. More importantly, from a system perspective, the CR7120 maintains gigabit data rates through its highly efficient, integrated programmable IPsec packet engine. This capability sets Corrent's solution apart from the competition, none of which offer such functionality at gigabit data rates.
