Corrent's SR600 Appliance Earns 'Secured by Check Point' Certification from Check Point Software.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Security appliance Security appliances protect computer networks from unwanted data traffic, intruders, email spam, enforce policies, and may also be used to create and manage VPNs. There are a number of types of security appliances.  integrates seamlessly with Check Point VPN-1 Pro for best defense against application-layer and denial-of-service attacks "DoS" redirects here. For other uses, see DOS (disambiguation).
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.

Corrent Corp., the price/performance leader in network security technology, today announced it has achieved "Secured by Check Point(TM)" certification for its SR600 integrated firewall/VPN security platform from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP CHKP Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (stock abbreviation, AMEX) ), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet.

Corrent and Check Point collaborated on the development of the hardware acceleration In computing, hardware acceleration is the use of hardware to perform some function faster than is possible in software running on the normal (general purpose) CPU. Examples of hardware acceleration include blitting acceleration functionality in graphics processing units (GPUs) and  technology used in the Corrent SR600 security platform to maximize the performance of Check Point Next Generation(TM) with Application Intelligence(TM). The distributed processing The first term used to describe the distribution of multiple computers throughout an organization in contrast to a centralized system. It started with the first minicomputers. Today, distributed processing is called "distributed computing." See also client/server.  architecture of the SR600 uses four processors dedicated to specific security tasks and optimized data paths to separate known good traffic from suspicious traffic. As a result, the Corrent(R) SR600 is one of the highest performing security appliances in its class, offering 4.6 Gbps of large-packet and 2.8 Gbps of small-packet firewall throughput. With the ability to handle the most demanding e-commerce and data center applications, the SR600 can establish and tear down more than 50,000 sessions per second while sustaining up to 500,000 concurrent connections. Using Corrent's own CR7120 security processor, the SR600 is also able to deliver 2.4 Gbps of VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  throughput for all packet sizes while supporting up to 20,000 VPN clients.

The advantages of the Corrent SR600, however, go beyond just outstanding throughput. Using Check Point SmartDefense(TM) services, the SR600 offers exceptional protection against DDoS and application-layer attacks. Although nearly all firewalls offer some protection against DDoS attacks, many are not fast enough to keep up with the task of dropping malicious packets without severely throttling good traffic. Because of the robustness of the Corrent solution, its distributed architecture and large session capacity, an SR600 appliance can withstand even a massive DDoS flood of up to 1 Gbps and still deliver over 950 Mbps of good traffic.

Leveraging Check Point's industry-leading intelligent security, the SR600 also excels in its ability to do application-layer inspections, such as worm detection. For large page sizes, the SR600 delivers 2.7 Gbps of Layer 7 inspection throughput, and even with pages as small as 1K bytes, will sustain over 400 Mbps throughput at rates in excess of 20,000 sessions per second. Few other security appliances are able to offer a comparable level of protection at these speeds.

"Security is a top concern for today's large enterprises, and the SR600 in alliance with Check Point firewall and VPN technology offers end users peace of mind when it comes to DDoS and application-layer attacks," said Michael Donath, VP of worldwide sales for Corrent Corp. "We are delighted to offer a security appliance with the assurance of interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  provided by 'Secured by Check Point' certification."

"With 'Secured by Check Point' certification of Corrent's SR600, customers can take advantage of a powerful security appliance offering integrated hardware acceleration technology with Check Point VPN-1 Pro," said Upesh Patel, director, business development, for Check Point Software Technologies. "The threat posed by application-layer attacks is ever growing, and we are pleased to work with Corrent to deliver a high-performance appliance to secure enterprise networks."
