Corrections. In the Aug. 15 story, "City Attorney Under Scrutiny as County Reins in Its Court Costs court costs n. fees for expenses that the courts pass on to attorneys, who then pass them on to their clients or, in some kinds of cases, to the losing party. Court costs usually include: filing fees, charges for serving summons and subpenas, court reporter charges for depositions (which can be very expensive), court transcripts, and copying papers and exhibits. The prevailing party in a law suit is usually awarded court costs.," a reference to the city of L.A.'s liability payouts of $45 million was for fiscal year 2003-04. Liability payouts for fiscal year 2004-05, which ended June 30, totaled $28 million. In the Aug. 14 story, "A Happy Tune," the name of the chief executive of SmartSound Software Inc. was misspelled and his role was incorrectly defined. His name is Kevin Klingler. He invented the concept for the software, which was then developed by co-founders Chris and Geoff Hufford. The story also misstated the company's revenues. SmartSound generated $3.1 million in 2004 and $3.4 million in 2003. |
