Mental Health Issues. A tremendous amount of people in our nation's correctional systems have mental illnesses. This issue will explain the problem and look at various ways to deal with and help this population of offenders. This issue also will include subtheme articles on health care.

Security and Technology. Technology plays a major role in helping maintain safe and secure facilities. In this issue, we will examine the latest technological developments and their impact on corrections. Possible topics include the war on terror This article is about U.S. actions, and those of other states, after September 11, 2001. For other conflicts, see Terrorism.

Legislative and Judicial Issues. Correctional administrators must cope with a variety of state and federal laws on everything from sentencing to religious freedom. This issue will examine how legislation impacts corrections, as well as the role that the judicial courts play in the criminal justice system. Possible topics include re-entry, prison rape Prison rape commonly refers to the rape of inmates in prison by other inmates or prison staff. According to Human Rights Watch, there is a significant variation in the rates of prison rape by race. Stop Prisoner Rape, Inc. statistics indicate that there are more men raped in U.S.  and health care. Submission deadline: March 16, 2005.

OCTOBER

Women Working in Corrections. Females continue to be a growing segment of the correctional work force. This edition will examine issues that effect women working in corrections and address how they can be successful in their professional careers. Submission deadline: May 18, 2005.

DECEMBER

Staff Safety, Training, Education and Retention. The key to success in any business is investing in employees. Staff safety, training, education and retention are essential. This issue will focus on these topics and give corrections professionals ideas and suggestions on how to successfully recruit and retain staff. Submission deadline: July 13, 2005.
