Correction.

* In John Garvey's August 11 column on Garry Wills's Papal Sin, an editing error introduced quotation marks around the words "long" and "ancient" in reference to the church's long and ancient opposition to abortion. Father Garvey writes: "This makes me appear to be winking at, or disagreeing with, the idea that the church has opposed abortion from its earliest years. The quotation marks were not in my original text. I know the church's opposition to abortion is in fact long and ancient, and it was my intention to say so."
