* In John Garvey's August 11 column on Garry Wills's Papal Sin, an editing error introduced quotation marks around the words "long" and "ancient" in reference to the church's long and ancient opposition to abortion. Father Garvey writes: "This makes me appear to be winking winking /wink·ing/ (wingk´ing) quick opening and closing of the eyelids.
