Correction.

In the feature, "Public Accounting in Canada," which appeared in the April 2006 issue of CMA Management, there were two errors of fact. First, the Justice Law Amendment Act, referred to on page 37 and put forward by the previous Ontario Conservative Government, died on the order table. The new public accounting regime in Ontario is governed by the Public Accounting Act 2004, which was proclaimed on Nov 1, 2005.

Second, the article stated that "CMAs are currently eligible to practice in the field of public accounting in all provinces and territories except Quebec and Prince Edward Island." In fact, CMAs are not currently eligible to practice public accounting in Ontario. CMA Ontario must apply to the Public Accountants Council and demonstrate that its processes meet the approved standard. Based on an evaluation of CMA Ontario's submission, the Society may be granted the authority by PAC to grant licences to eligible CMAs in Ontario.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
