In "Electricity-leaking office equipment" (SN: 2/3/01, p. 79), several of the numbers given for energy waste are actually total power consumption when the devices referred to are on. For instance, 71 terawatt hours is the electricity usage of office equipment in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , not waste. Also, the study examined energy savings from turning off unused equipment at night, not "pulling the plug" on them.
