CORRECTION: In the "Correction, Please!" column in our January 10 issue, the figure we provided for the average daily increase in the national debt
National debt
Treasury bills, notes, bonds, and other debt obligations that constitute the debt owed by the federal government.
 was incorrect. The correct amount is $1.6 billion per day, based on the fact that the national debt rose from $6.78 trillion One thousand times one billion (10 to the 12th power). See space/time. at the end of fiscal 2003 to $7.38 trillion at the end of fiscal 2004.
