.A) Tembec Inc. is pleased to announce that it is launching its Tembec Environmental Fund in each region in Ontario and Quebec hosting its forest operations.

The Tembec Environmental Fund will support the Company principles and guidelines on social and environmental responsibility.

The fund is established using net after-tax profits from a mill or group of mills during a given fiscal year. Each year, five cents ($0.05) will be paid in the fund for every cubic metre Noun 1. cubic metre - a metric unit of volume or capacity equal to 1000 liters

 of wood harvested on public land. The total amount for all regions and mills in both Ontario and Quebec could reach $300,000 in 1997.

The Tembec Environmental Fund will be managed by regional five member committees, each made up of a Tembec representative, an employee representative, two regional municipal body representatives and one regional community leader. The regions established are: Abitibi, Temiscamingue, Mattawa, Alban, Huntsville, Gaspesie, Kapuskasing, Hearst and Timmins.

The fund is to be used to improve the environment and wildlife habitats and to purchase or develop equipment that will enhance the environment, as well as enjoyment and appreciation by the community, with a view to increasing economic, social and cultural benefits for the region.
