" offered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is a Texas state agency that oversees and protects wildlife and their habitats. In addition, the agency is responsible for managing the state's parks and historical areas. . For the purchase price of $10.00, hunters 17 or older may obtain a deferral that becomes effective Sept. 1, 2004. This deferral allows a hunter who has not completed a hunter education program to defer completion for up to one year and is only valid until the end of the current license year. The deferral may only be obtained one time. Hunters 12 or older must have proof of completing a hunter education course or accompanied by a permitted adult 18 years of age or older.
