CLD 8.0 incorporates a wide range of product development initiatives that have been in the works at Corprasoft for the past 18 months. With this product release, the company provides CLD customers with new user options in a robust matter management system that is the easiest to use in the industry.

CLD 8.0 offers an option of two distinct user interfaces that may be co-deployed:

(1) "Smart Client" Interface

Smart Client is a Windows-based user interface that is built on .NET software technology and offers CLD customers a rich, user-friendly experience that is instantly familiar to users of Microsoft Outlook For the e-mail and news client bundled with certain versions of Microsoft Windows, see .

.

The Smart Client interface is very easy to learn since it interacts like a traditional Windows application A program that is written to run under Microsoft's Windows operating system. Such applications typically run under all 32-bit versions of Windows, but earlier applications might also run under the 16-bit versions (Windows 3.x) as well. See Windows. . Moreover, Smart Client features one-touch deployment, which means that after the initial installation, the software keeps updating the interface automatically each time it is used.

"We believe this new Smart Client interface offers users a rich experience, but the beauty of CLD 8.0 is that we are offering it as an alternative to our traditional 'Web Client' interface and leaving it up to each user of our product to decide which client they prefer," said Carl Sutherland Sutherland or Sutherlandshire, former county, N Scotland. Under the Local Government Act of 1973, Sutherland became (1975) part of the new Highland region (now a council area). , president of Dallas-based Corprasoft. "The fact is that our customers just want their software to work well and be simple to use -- they know that technological sophistication so·phis·ti·cate

is important, but it's meaningless if people have a hard time making the stuff work. The unique 'user option' for interfaces in the new release of Corprasoft Legal Desktop is a first in our industry and represents our commitment as a company to deliver a matter management solution that makes the software easier to use."

(2) New Product Features

Regardless of whether users choose the traditional Web Client interface or the new Smart Client interface, CLD 8.0 incorporates a number of exciting new product features. There are more than 50 individual enhancements built into CLD 8.0, all of which were created in order to improve the product in three key areas: flexibility; ease of use; and navigation.

"By increasing the flexibility of the product and automating even more tasks, we're getting closer to realizing the dream of what computers were supposed to do: make life easier for people by automating tasks that people currently have to do over and over again," said Sutherland.

For example, noted Sutherland, a number of new CLD 8.0 features have strengthened CLD's cost allocation The apportionment or designation of an item for a specific purpose or to a particular place.

In the law of trusts, the allocation of cash dividends earned by a stock that makes up the principal of a trust for a beneficiary usually means that the dividends will be treated as

Matter cost information can be viewed in virtually any way that is needed -- by company, business unit, client, practice area or product -- and matter costs can now be more easily allocated and managed.

The new features built into CLD 8.0 have also enhanced the product's routed invoice An itemized statement or written account of goods sent to a purchaser or consignee by a vendor that indicates the quantity and price of each piece of merchandise shipped.

, more options for routing them to the right people within the organization, improved security features, and a faster end-to-end approval process.

CLD 8.0's new features also include improvements in the timekeeping module for the product. With the recent enhancements developed for the new version, CLD more effectively helps legal departments manage valuable staff resources and track internal costs. This optional application available for use with CLD allows in-house professional staff to quickly and accurately enter "time slip" information in an easy-to-use interface.

"In a single product, CLD provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of a legal department's operations, from substantive matter information to financial and cost-related information," said Sutherland. "These new enhancements to the product deliver even greater power and flexibility to our users within a wonderful design that makes it easy to be configured con·fig·ure
