For less than the price of a fast-food lunch, a technology security firm was able to buy hard drives containing sensitive data from online auctions.

Pointsec Mobile Technologies, based in Stockholm, found it was able to read information on seven out of 10 hard drives it purchased on public auctions such as eBay, in spite of the claim that all hard drives had been wiped clean or reformatted.
