Company description: "Blue Fish began as a dream." Jennifer Barclay, chairperson and founder.

Blue Fish is a designer, manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of hand block-printed women's and children's clothing. Each piece of Blue Fish clothing is printed by hand with hand-carved blocks by one of 42 artists in the company's Frenchtown, N.J. studio, where the clothing is designed and produced. The signature block of each artist can be found inside the hem of the garments they have created. The clothing attracts a loyal and growing following who collect the garments for their artistic beauty, comfort and the unique possibilities of layering for an individual, creative look.

In 1987, Blue Fish opened its first retail store in a renovated stone mill in Frenchtown. Today, Blue Fish has grown to be the largest employer in Frenchtown. Blue Fish owns and operates three other stores in Taos, N.M. (opened 1989), Santa Fe Santa Fe, city, Argentina
Santa Fe, city (1991 pop. 341,000), capital of Santa Fe prov., NE Argentina, a river port near the Paraná, with which it is connected by canal.
, N.M. (opened 1994) and Austin, Texas (opened 1996).

In May 1996, Blue Fish completed a successful Direct Public Offering, selling over 787,000 shares of stock and raising nearly four million. Blue Fish shares are now traded exclusively on the Chicago Stock Exchange Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX)

A major exchange trading only stocks, with 90% of trades taking place on an automated execution system, called MAX.
