Corporate e-cycling.

Corporations often consolidate their operations, merging with each other in order to achieve economy of scale, increase revenues, and grow market share. Frequently, achieving these goals requires the combined organization to convert its information systems and relocate its operations. The resulting integration can generate considerable waste in the form of outdated technology and electronic devices.

Rapid advances in technology have reduced the life span of computers and other equipment to two years or less. Electronic equipment often contains toxic metals, fire retardants and other carcinogenic carcinogenic

Environmentalists say the nation's biggest problem may be the smallest devices such as, handheld gaming consoles, cell phones, PDA's, and music players. Typically, the batteries in the smaller portable devices are prohibitively expensive to replace, and consumers simply toss these devices into the trash.

The biggest offenders are cell phones, which are small and lightweight, and marketed as disposable. According to according to

, there are about 500 million obsolete, broken or discarded cell phones in the U.S., and about 130 million more are added each year. Because calling plans are often packaged with low-cost or free upgrades, cell phones are in use for only about 18 months before being replaced by the consumer and face their demise even before they have become technologically obsolete.

Businesses are recognizing more and more their role as stewards of the environment, and the need for more responsible disposal practices. Ensuring that obsolete or unwanted electronic equipment is properly handled is a growing consideration when implementing a corporate relocation, expansion, merger, or acquisition. Whether replacing leased or purchased environmentally sensitive equipment, or preparing for a corporate relocation; a responsible electronic waste management service can provide a cost-effective, one-stop solution for a smooth transition, while reducing environmental impact.
