Vulcan is the largest producer of construction materials (primarily gravel, crushed stone, and sand) in the United  is a producer of industrial materials and commodities with significant positions in two industries. Vulcan is the nation's foremost producer of construction aggregates, a major producer of other construction materials, and a leading chemicals manufacturer, supplying chloralkali and other industrial chemicals.

Vulcan's construction materials group is the nation's leading producer of construction aggregates. The company operates over 300 aggregates plants and other production and distribution facilities which provide a diversified line of aggregates, other construction materials, and related services to all parts of the construction industry in 21 states and the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C.
