Background

A pioneer in commercial aviation, TWA was founded in 1925 as Western Air Express. In 1930, Western Air merged with Transcontinental Air Transport and became Transcontinental & Western Air (T&WA). In 1950 the corporate name was changed to Trans World Airlines Trans World Airlines, commonly known as TWA, was a major American airline company that was acquired by American Airlines in April 2001. For many years it was headquartered at the Kansas City Downtown Airport, as well as midtown Manhattan in New York City. , Inc.
