The natural gas segment (5%) serves about 6,400 customers; there are six industrial steam (7%) customers. Retail electric sales for 1995 totaled 1.48 million megawatt-hours. Average annual use per residential customer increased in 1995 to 11,018 kilowatt-hours. The historic summer peak is 345 while the winter peak is 300 MW. The company's prices are among the lowest in the state and nation. The company's mid-America location offers excellent possibilities for development. The economy is diversified diversified (di·verˑ·s , as indicated by the more than 20 two-digit Standard Industrial Codes (SIC) represented among its key industrial and commercial accounts. Generating facilities include the Lake Road plant in St. Joseph and an 18% ownership in the Iatan plant near Weston, Mo. Total generating capacity is 382 megawatts (MW).
